ABOUT US
Ring Mountain Day School offers a structured and well-balanced program
including a well-rounded educational experience, rigorous academics,
specialist classes, before and after school care, after school enrichment
classes, and a full summer program at the preschool campus.
The school enrolls 220 boys and girls from the San Francisco bay Area in an
academic program encompassing age 2 in Preschool through Grade 8. The School
occupies two campuses in Marin County, north of San Francisco. The preschool
is located in Tiburon, and the elementary campus is in Mill Valley, at the
foot of Mount Tamalpais.
At RMDS, students develop overall self-awareness and a sense of personal
responsibility to their communities: family, school, and the diverse would
in which they live. Our teachers create a dynamic learning environment to
stimulate creative thinking, motivate academic excellence and instill a
lifelong desire to learn. The first Toddler program was established in 2003,
and the first class of eighth graders graduated in 2004.
CURRICULUM
Ring Mountain’s progressive educational program is marked by structure and
balance to provide each child with a strong foundation for future learning.
The student-centered curriculum, taught by a highly committed, caring
faculty, places equal emphasis on the sciences, humanities, and arts. Core
subjects focus on reading and language arts, mathematics, science, Spanish
and social studies. Course work is designed to provide continuity and
consistency throughout the K-8 span.
A primary focus is hands-on problem solving in all areas of the curriculum.
Round table discussions are a centerpiece of humanities classes and science
and mathematics labs. Our program is enriched with Spanish, art, music,
dance, drama, physical education, as well as library and technology skills,
all taught by specialists in their respective fields.
Community service involves all Ring mountain students in learning while
helping others. The community service learning program involves nearby
communities and other schools around the country. Students in grades 3-8
also take extended field trips every year, to places such as Pinnacles State
Park, Washington, D.C., Ashland, Oregon, Arizona and Mexico.
