ABOUT US

Marin Primary & Middle School, founded in 1975, is a Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade co-educational independent school located in Larkspur, Marin County, California. We believe that childhood is a time to be treasured, so we strive to protect the pace of each child's journey from childhood to adolescence. We believe in educating the whole child and we recognize that every child learns differently. We don't ask, "how smart is each child," but rather, "how is each child smart."

"Marin Primary" opened its doors as a preschool in the basement of a Lutheran church. Five years later, "Marin Primary" moved to its present 5 acre location on the border between Larkspur and Corte Madera. One class per year was added until the school encompassed grades PreK-5. In 1994, parents requested we grow again. The school added 6th grade, changed its name to Marin Primary & Middle School and has grown steadily to the present day.

CURRICULUM

It is difficult to generalize about a Marin Primary & Middle School education because our curriculum is very broad in scope and diverse in content. Several themes however, are a feature of every child's education at MP&MS. As outlined in our school philosophy, we educate our students using what we call a "Teams of Teaching" model and within this model, we emphasize an inquiry based approach to learning. These two concepts, Teams of Teaching and inquiry based learning, keep students interested and engaged and make learning fun.

Our parents often tell us (and sometimes the children do too), that their children love to come to school here. Our parents also tell us that one of the things they like best about our school is that they feel like the teachers really know their children, not just as students, but as people.
