ABOUT US

Educational excellence and challenge is central to the Marin Horizon School experience. Students are given solid grounding in the fundamentals and the tools to become critical thinkers and problem solvers. Our comprehensive program, inspired by the Montessori philosophy, engages students to think independently and communicate with confidence.

Our formula is simple. We start with a child's natural curiosity. We give individual attention in small classes-ensuring a student/teacher ratio of 9 to 1. We provide teachers who challenge each child, share their enthusiasm and promote knowledge as its own reward. And we surround our children with a happy, safe and supportive environment. Students at every age are given the opportunity to investigate and learn on their own and in small groups, supported in their research by an excellent library and computer resources. Through creative use of student generated questions, imaginative problem-solving, and hands-on experimentation, we help students sustain a love of learning that will carry them through high school, college, and beyond.

CURRICULUM

In addition to a strong academic base, our program is solidly grounded in multicultural studies and a celebration of diversity in its many manifestations. As part of the school experience, we help children become keen problem identifiers, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. These skills are introduced to very young children and honed continuously as they grow older. Our program addresses social, emotional, physical, and creative development as well as academic growth. We consciously work with children on their decision-making processes and their interactions with others. We teach and encourage a conflict resolution approach to disagreements. In keeping with our focus on values, we involve children in real and relevant experiences in the school, in the environment, and in the larger community to help them develop a personal ethic that is then put into practice. Within this context we offer a community service program and multiple opportunities to work on projects that make a difference in our community.
